Course Information
Course Information for AMP Coursework Requirements
The Academy for Medical Professions offers a range of courses that students can take to fulfill the program's requirements. A student doesn’t have to be in the academy to enroll in any specific class; however, academy students are given priority to join the courses over non-academy students, as there is often limited space available. Below, you will find information about some of the healthcare-specific courses that members are either required or recommended to take when planning to continue their education in the medical field after high school. You can also find additional information on all of the courses through the MHS Course Catalog.
PLTW – What is it?
PLTW stands for Project Lead The Way. These courses offer hands-on learning experiences for students interested in specific fields of study and careers. The specific courses we are looking at in relation to AMP are the PLTW Biomedical Science Courses. Here at MHS, we offer four such courses to engage students and prepare them for pursuing biomedical degrees in college. It is suggested to follow these courses in the order outlined below; however, it is not required. To learn more about PLTW, please check out their website here.PLTW Biomedical Courses at MHS
Principles of Biomedical Sciences (PBS) (1 credit)
PBS is a course typically for Freshman and Sophomore students. Here, students develop a foundation and skills that help them understand the biomedical field through content and labs that lead to more complex practices applied in future classes and professional settings.

Human Body Systems (HBS) (1 credit)
HBS is a course typically for Sophomores and Juniors. Similar to an anatomy and physiology course, students learn about the human body and apply that knowledge to real-world scenarios and cases that doctors and nurses frequently encounter. A challenging course, this helps students understand the rigor and depth that medical students in college often face, and prepares students well for similar classes at the college level.

Course Information Night
Every year, Mukwonago High School hosts a Course Information Night (CIN) for current and incoming students and their families to discuss classes of interest with teachers. This would be an excellent opportunity to touch base with the teachers and get more information about these courses and others that interest you.
AMP will be giving a presentation at CIN for students and parents to learn more and talk with the advisors. Please visit the "Where Can I Find Out More" page to learn more about the AMP presentation during Course Information Night.
