Work-Based Learning Options
Mukwonago High School offers students a variety of work-based learning experiences designed to connect classroom instruction with real-world career exploration. These opportunities help students apply academic knowledge, develop employability skills, and make informed decisions about their futures.Job Shadow
Job shadowing allows students to observe a professional in a specific career field to gain first-hand insight into daily responsibilities, workplace expectations, and career pathways. This short-term experience helps students determine if a career aligns with their interests and goals.
Work Experience
The Work Experience Program helps students build essential employability and leadership skills in a paid work setting. Students enrolled in this program earn Employability Skills and Leadership certifications and must complete the .5-credit Work Seminar course to participate. Students earn .5 high school credits for every 90 work hours completed (up to 3 credits). This program provides valuable, supervised experience while connecting academic learning to future career success.
Youth Apprenticeship
Wisconsin’s Youth Apprenticeship (YA) program blends academic coursework with hands-on, paid learning in a professional setting. Students earn high school credit, a state certificate, and an orange graduation cord of achievement. One-year YA participants complete 450 work hours, while two-year participants complete 900 work hours. Students must also take one credit of related classroom instruction each year of the program.
